We have green, warm and violet base solutions to counter and neutralise a range of undertones and all of our base shades come in light, medium, dark and double dark to cater for your desired result.
The base color refers to the underlying tone of the spray tan, which can have an impact on the overall appearance of the tan.
In this post, we'll take a closer look at our base colors - green, caramel, and purple - and help you decide which one might be best for you.
Depending on desired result you may want to wash your face off early.
Do not bathe, shower or sweat for MINIMUM 4-6 hours after application with the Portofino and St Tropez, the Mykonos should be rinsed sooner. Avoid chlorinated pools for 18-hours. Full results develop within 18-24 hours, the tan will keep developing if you water shower at 6 hours, but the longer you leave the tan before showering, the darker the result.
Mykonos Express, Purple Base Spray Tan
Rapid development sunless solution. Our Mykonos tan is the fastest developing option, with results in as little as 2-3 hours (but the longer you leave it the darker the result).
Warm water rinse (NO soap) in 1 hour for a light tan, 2 hours for a medium tan and 3+ hours for a dark tan.
A purple base spray tan is often recommended for those with cool or yellow undertones in their skin as it will work to neutralize yellow undertones.
Our purple base helps to counter orange tones in the tan, specially formulated with a unique blend of anti-orange pigments, resulting in a more natural-looking colour.
The violet based solution develops the most olive, with a dark brown colour and fewer to no golden undertones. This type of spray tan is also great for those with medium to dark olive skin tones, as it can help prevent the tan from appearing too light or ashy. We recommend our violet based products if you tan easily in the sun.
Although you can shower in as little as 1-2 hours full results will develop over 24 hours. And remember the longer you leave the tan on - the darker the result!
Hot tip: wash hands after 30 minutes, and wash face early if desired.
Portofino, Green Base Spray Tan
A green base spray tan is typically recommended for those with pink or red undertones in their skin. The green base helps to neutralize the pink or red tones, resulting in a more natural-looking tan.
This type of spray tan is also great for those with fair skin, as it can help prevent the tan from appearing too orange or unnatural.
Green is considered the ‘one-size-fits-all’ of base colours as it includes both warm and cool tones, making it neutral. This means a green base sunless tan will sit nicely on almost all skin types.

A caramel base spray tan is a popular option for those with warm undertones in their skin or those looking for a warmer, honey brown result.
This type of spray tan has a warm, golden-brown hue that can help enhance the natural warmth in your skin. It’s also perfect for those who like a warmer golden glow.
If you have a naturally warm complexion a caramel base spray tan may be a good choice for you, caramel bases often sit well on fair skin also.
